11 Hajj Pilgrims from Indonesia’s NTB Province Die in Saudi Arabia, Families Receive Compensation
The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) regional office of Indonesia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reported that 11 pilgrims from the province died while performing the Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The deceased included three pilgrims each from Lombok Tengah, Lombok Timur, and Bima, and two from Sumbawa. The ministry will provide each family with an insurance payout of roughly Rp54 million, equivalent to the travel cost paid for the pilgrimage, and will return any personal belongings of the deceased. Officials, led by regional head Lalu Muhamad Amin, plan condolence visits to the families in Lombok Timur, Lombok Tengah, Bima and Sumbawa, coordinating the trips alongside the repatriation of the remaining pilgrims.
