Indonesia Hajj 2026‑2027: funding, staffing & facilities

Overview

By early July 2026 all 184,322 Indonesian pilgrims and staff had returned home, and the ministry hailed the season as one of the best in its history. A roughly Rp 2 million cut in pilgrimage fees, introduction of pre‑departure Nusuk cards and a 25 % drop in mortality to about 350 deaths were reported. House Commission VIII urged a mandatory health‑manasik programme for 2027, backed by Vice‑Minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak. Airport upgrades at Bandung’s Husein Sastranegara continued, expanding security and rescue‑fire capacity, with 11 new routes slated for August‑September. On 9 July the ministry proposed a 2027 BPIH of about Rp 107.34 million per pilgrim, citing a weaker rupiah, higher jet‑fuel costs and Saudi service fees; the financing model would be roughly 60 % covered by returns from the Hajj Funds Management Agency and 40 % paid directly by pilgrims. The Indonesian Ulema Council’s deputy chairman criticised the scheme as misleading. On 10 July a new Class I dormitory opened in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, accommodating 176 pilgrims, while the governor called for direct flights from the province to Jeddah and Medina. The minister’s on‑site evaluation identified over 4,000 high‑risk pilgrims and reiterated a zero‑tolerance stance on violations, urging tighter health‑screening coordination. On 14 July a DPR member highlighted an illegal‑hajj scam costing about Rp 116.7 billion for 3,550 pilgrims, and Parliament approved a Rp 4 trillion down‑payment to secure tents, visas and other services for the 2027 season, retaining the 60:40 cost‑share model. On 17 July, the regional Hajj office in Papua Barat asked for additional civil‑servant and contract positions, continuation of the four‑storey transit hostel in Sorong and a dedicated work unit in Teluk Wondama, citing insufficient staff for the province and Papua Barat Daya.
