12 Tons of Waste Removed in Hazar Lake Cleanup in Turkey's Elazığ Province

On June 4, 2026, local authorities in the Sivrice district of Elazığ Province, Turkey, carried out a large‑scale environmental cleaning operation around Hazar Lake. The effort, organized by the provincial special administration, covered the lake’s 56‑kilometre shoreline.

Using ten vehicles and a team of about 50 personnel, workers removed approximately 12 tons of waste from beaches, picnic areas and other heavily used spots. Governor Numan Hatipoğlu highlighted the action as essential for preventing pollution, preserving the lake’s natural beauty and tourism potential, and urged residents to stay mindful of environmental stewardship.
