Man killed in early‑morning collision on M53 near Clatterbridge, Wirral
A man in his 40s died after being struck by a Toyota Yaris on the northbound carriageway of the M53 at junction 4 (Clatterbridge, Wirral) at about 03:25 GMT on 15 June 2026. Police said the victim had earlier been involved in a separate crash on the southbound side, where his Skoda Fabia hit the central reservation. The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Merseyside Police closed both directions of the motorway between junctions 4 and 5 while the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit conducts enquiries. Officers appealed for witnesses and for anyone with dash‑cam or CCTV footage to contact the unit. Family Liaison Officers are supporting the victim’s relatives.
