15 migrants found hidden in sealed truck near Calafat

Authorities near the Calafat-Vidin bridge in Romania discovered 15 foreign nationals hidden inside a sealed freight compartment of a semi-trailer truck. The individuals, who identified themselves as citizens of Iran and Iraq, were found concealed among cargo consisting of water and napkins.

The truck, which was registered in Romania and driven by a Turkish citizen, was traveling on a route from Turkey to Austria. During a routine inspection on Friday morning, border police and customs officials discovered that the trailer's doors could be accessed by removing specific screws, allowing entry without compromising the customs seal.

The Turkish driver is currently under investigation for human trafficking, while the 15 individuals are being investigated for illegal border crossing. The operation was conducted through cooperation between the Romanian Border Police, the Craiova Regional Customs Directorate, and Bulgarian border authorities.
