15-year-old receives life‑saving liver transplant in Moldova

A 15‑year‑old adolescent in Chișinău, diagnosed with decompensated liver cirrhosis, underwent a successful live‑donor liver transplant at the Timofei Moșneaga Republican Clinical Hospital in collaboration with the Institute of Mother and Child. The donor was a 43‑year‑old male relative who provided the right liver lobe.

The operation, performed at the end of June, involved a multidisciplinary team including Professor Adrian Hotineanu, head of Surgery at USMF Nicolae Testemițanu, pediatric surgeon Igor Ambros and anesthesiologist‑intensivist Anastasia Bobu. It marked the fifth pediatric liver transplant ever carried out in the Republic of Moldova. Post‑operative care was intensive but uneventful, and the teenager was discharged home a few weeks later and continues recovery under medical follow‑up.
