Ukraine drone strikes kill at least 19 civilians across multiple regions

At least 19 people were killed in a series of attacks in Ukraine and Russia during the fifth summer of the war, as both sides intensified long‑range strikes. Ukrainian drones hit a refinery deep inside Russia and the city of Gekaterinburg in the Urals. A drone attack on the postal‑service facility in the northeastern city of Sumy killed three drivers. Russian shelling claimed two civilian lives in Belgorod and one in Kherson. In the Russian‑occupied Zaporizhzhia region, a Ukrainian strike on a village on the Azov Sea coast killed 11 people, including four children. President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly announced the Sumy drone attack. The United Nations warned that civilian casualties in the conflict rose 37 % in the first half of 2026.
