Vietnam locates 197 war dead remains at Le Thi Rieng Park

Vietnamese authorities have intensified efforts to locate and exhume the remains of war dead. After a month of excavation at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, teams recovered 197 sets of remains, including 171 individual bodies and 26 from collective graves. The operation involved heavy machinery, soil removal of over 200 m³, and the collection of accompanying artifacts.

In parallel, Tây Ninh Province reported that 511 war‑dead remains were repatriated from eight provinces in Cambodia during the 2025‑2026 dry season. The remains have been received, sampled for DNA testing, and honored in formal ceremonies. Additional discoveries were made in Da Nẵng and Gia Lai, where six more sets of remains were recovered and are awaiting identification.

All recovered material is being sent to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology for DNA analysis to confirm identities and provide closure for families, reflecting a nationwide commitment to “Uống nước nhớ nguồn, Đền ơn đáp nghĩa.”
