2025 naming trends in Croatia and Serbia highlight baby name choices

In Croatia, the most popular name for newborn girls in 2025 was Nikaje, given to 372 babies, followed by Mia and Rita. Other common female names included Lucija, Marta, Mila, Ema, Eva, Sara and Lara. The country recorded a rise in total births to 711, up from the previous year, with the largest increases at hospitals in Zabok, Zagreb, Sisak and Rijeka.

In Serbia, a mother made headlines by naming her son "Srbujem," a word derived from the verb meaning "to be Serbian." She explained that the name reflects patriotic pride and hopes for her child's future. While many comments were supportive, some expressed concern that the unusual name could invite teasing.
