2027 total solar eclipse to be longest of the century

A total solar eclipse occurring on August 2, 2027, is set to be the longest of the 21st century. The phenomenon will reach a peak duration of 6 minutes and 22 seconds near Luxor, Egypt.

The exceptional length of the eclipse is attributed to the Moon being near its perigee, the point in its orbit closest to Earth, making it appear larger in the sky and more effective at covering the Sun. This event establishes a record for the longest duration of solar blockage measured on Earth between 1991 and 2114.

The path of total darkness will cross through Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia. During the period of totality, the sudden drop in light will create twilight-like conditions, allowing for the observation of stars, bright planets, and the solar corona.
