2027 Total Solar Eclipse to Darken Europe, Africa and Middle East for Over Six Minutes
On 2 August 2027 a total solar eclipse will pass across a narrow corridor that includes parts of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The path of totality will sweep over Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia, where observers will experience darkness for about six minutes and 23 seconds. Outside the path, a partial eclipse will be seen over a wider area. Astronomers note that the event offers a rare opportunity to view the Sun’s corona, but emphasize the need for certified solar filters except during the brief total phase.
In Spain, the newly opened Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra resort on Mallorca is promoting exclusive eclipse‑watching packages. The hotel, which features 131 rooms, multiple dining venues, a spa and pools, will host limited‑capacity experiences such as a hot‑air balloon ride for 15 guests, private helicopter flights and yacht viewings at the moment of totality. The resort aims to attract tourists seeking a luxury setting to observe the celestial event.
