22-year-old arrested in Kifisia for €120,000 telephone fraud targeting elderly

Police in the Kifisia district of Athens arrested a 22‑year‑old man on 1 July 2026 for a telephone fraud scheme that deceived an elderly woman into handing over more than €120,000 in cash and gold. The suspect posed as an employee of an electricity company and warned the victim of a possible electric‑shock danger, convincing her to place money and jewellery outside her home, which the perpetrators then stole. investigators also seized clothing worn during the crime, additional gold items and the vehicle used by the suspects. The arrested individual has previous police records for similar offences and was taken to the prosecutor’s office in handcuffs. Several Greek news outlets reported the same arrest, noting the large sum involved and the method of the phone scam.
