27‑year‑old man drowns while rescuing brother in Italy’s River Oglio
On the evening of 13 June, a 27‑year‑old man died after he dived into the River Oglio near the stretch between Roccafranca (Brescia province) and Torre Pallavicina (Bergamo province) to save his older brother, who was struggling against the current. The older brother was rescued, revived by emergency personnel and regained consciousness. Rescue crews – including the fire brigade’s river unit, ambulance staff, a helicopter from Como and Carabinieri from Chiari, Urgnano and Calcio – retrieved the victim, but despite prolonged resuscitation attempts his heart did not restart. He was declared dead at the Civil Hospital in Brescia. The incident is under investigation.
