Warsaw police bust identity‑theft gang responsible for €300k fraud

Police in the Wola district of Warsaw dismantled an organized identity‑theft gang. Four men were arrested and charged with 31 offences, including stealing personal data, opening bank accounts, and obtaining loans and credits in victims’ names. The operation uncovered a rented call‑centre office containing hundreds of SIM cards, mobile phones, laptops, and forged documents. Victims suffered losses exceeding 300,000 złoty (about €70,000). Two of the suspects were also found with narcotics. Courts have ordered pre‑trial detention, and the men face up to 15 years in prison.

The bust follows an earlier investigation that began with a watch and backpack theft, leading authorities to the larger fraud network.
