31 Civilians Killed in ADF Attacks in DRC’s Ituri Province
From 22 to 27 July, at least 31 civilians were killed in a series of attacks on communities in Mambasa territory, Ituri province, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The assaults were carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an insurgent group that is recognized as an affiliate of the Islamic State.
Joseph Paluku, head of a local civil‑society organisation in Mambasa, confirmed the death toll. The ADF, which began as a rebel movement in Uganda, has established bases in the Congolese forest and continues to launch raids despite joint operations by the armed forces of the DRC and Uganda. The incidents are unrelated to the ongoing conflict between the DRC army and the M23 rebel movement, which has caused a separate wave of casualties and displacement.
The attacks highlight the persistent security challenge posed by the ADF and its links to the broader extremist network.
