4-year-old girl in Goiás recovers after jararaca snakebite

A 4‑year‑old child was bitten on the left foot by a jararaca snake in the Prata village of Cavalcante, Goiás, Brazil on July 9. The Goiás Military Fire Department provided first aid and transferred her to the municipal hospital, where signs of envenomation—blood‑clotting changes, neurological impact and risk of kidney injury—were identified. Because of the severity, the Federal District’s fire service flew her by helicopter to the Hospital Materno‑Infantil de Brasília (HMIB), administering four vials of antivenom en route, which stabilized her condition.

The girl has since left intensive care but remains under observation, with no set discharge date.
