45-year-old driver sentenced to 40 days in jail after multiple traffic offenses in Makarska, Croatia

A 45-year-old repeat traffic offender in Makarska caused a vehicle collision, was arrested and brought before a court. He had previously accumulated 12 penalty points, leading to the suspension of his driver's licence until May 2027. The vehicle he was driving lacked a valid registration since November 2025 and its compulsory insurance had expired in December 2025.

The driver refused a preliminary drug test and a medical examination. Police detained him for 12 hours and imposed a nine‑month ban on driving category‑B vehicles. The court accepted the prosecution’s request for pre‑trial detention until 10 July 2026, imposed a fine of €1,110 and ordered a prison term of 40 days.

Authorities highlighted his history of refusing drug testing and numerous traffic violations, emphasizing the risk to public safety.
