4G Mobile Service Launched in Peru’s Amazon Border Communities

The government of Peru’s Amazonas region inaugurated 4G mobile service in Guayabal, a community in Condorcanqui Province, extending voice and data coverage to Guayabal and neighboring villages Belén, Yutupis, Pagkintza, and Puerto Galilea. The rollout is part of the Peru‑Ecuador Binational Development Plan for the Santiago River basin and was coordinated through the Mesa de Confianza Digital, involving regional authorities, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the municipal government, the national bank, the Pontifical Catholic University’s Rural Telecommunications Group, and the private firm Internet para Todos, which supplied equipment and maintenance. The new connectivity aims to boost tele‑education, tele‑health, and local public‑service management, improving quality of life in one of the country’s most remote border zones. A second phase will extend the network to San Rafael and eventually add 23 more high‑basin communities under an obras por impuestos arrangement with Gilat Networks Perú.
