51 nations unite at UN General Assembly to support Ukraine peace appeal
At the United Nations General Assembly, 51 nations have issued a joint statement supporting Ukraine's call for peace. The group, which includes the European Union, Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom, is urging Russia to cease its military operations and commit to a lasting, just peace in accordance with international law.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas stated that Ukraine is seeking peace and expressed hope that Russia would be willing to do the same. According to the statement, Ukraine has agreed to a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire effective from March 2025.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, alongside Kaja Kallas and French Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, addressed the media ahead of a UN Security Council meeting regarding Ukraine. Sybiha emphasized the collective appeal for Russia to choose a diplomatic path over continued military action.
