58-year-old rescued after medical emergency on Monte Tambura, Italy

On 14 June 2026, a 58‑year‑old man from Pistoia suffered a sudden illness while hiking at Passo della Focolaccia on Monte Tambura. The Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Toscano (SAST) was alerted at 12:15 p.m. and deployed a team of technicians and medical personnel to the scene. After evaluating his condition, rescuers found him stable and determined that hospitalisation was unnecessary. He was escorted to Castelnuovo railway station and allowed to return home independently.

The incident highlights the importance of promptly contacting emergency services (112) and providing precise location details in mountainous terrain, as emphasized by the rescue operators.
