5G expansion accelerates in Argentina's Jujuy and Spain's urban venues

Governor Carlos Sadir of Jujuy province met with Telecom Personal executives to present a multi‑year investment plan that will extend 5G coverage and deploy new fiber‑optic lines throughout the province, including key tourist corridors. Sadir said the improvements will boost education, health, production, tourism and public safety, and pledged that “every Jujeño, wherever they live, will have access to better communications.”

In Spain, Telefónica is conducting pilot trials of millimetre‑wave (mmWave) 5G micro‑antennas mounted on street furniture in densely populated spots such as Oviedo, Valencia and the Movistar Arena in Madrid. The high‑frequency band (24‑100 GHz) offers much higher capacity for events where thousands of users gather, but requires a dense network of small cells because of its short range and susceptibility to blockage. The trials aim to demonstrate a complementary layer to existing 5G networks that can handle large data volumes in crowded environments.
