71-year-old hiker dies after fall on Isernia mountain trail
A 71‑year‑old man from Giugliano in Campania died after slipping down a steep ravine on the trail that runs from Lake Castel San Vincenzo to the San Michele hermitage in the province of Isernia, Italy. The fall sent him into the Rio Colle Alto torrent.
Rescue crews from the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino responded, deploying two ground teams and an air‑rescue helicopter. The teams descended to the riverbank about 20 metres downstream of the trail, recovered the victim’s body upstream using alpine techniques, and confirmed his death before returning the remains to the valley.
