Greek police launch probe after 75‑year‑old woman found dead in Chania

A 75‑year‑old woman, identified as Aimiia Georgalaki, was spotted wandering on the morning of 24 July 2026 in the Chania region of Crete. Police placed her in protective custody at the Chania Police Station, but she left the premises unnoticed. On the evening of 3 August 2026 a citizen discovered her body in a field near Nerokouro. An autopsy indicated death from pathological causes with no signs of criminal activity.

The Hellenic Police announced that an Administrative Investigation (EDE) has been ordered against the officers involved, and the case file has been forwarded to the Greek Prosecutor’s Office for possible criminal review. The investigation remains ongoing.
