Investigation into death of elderly woman in Chania
Overview
Following the disappearance of 75-year-old Aimiia Georgalaki in the Chania region of Crete on 24 July 2026, she was placed in protective custody at a local police station but left the premises unnoticed.
On 3 August 2026, her body was discovered in a field near Nerokouro. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be pathological, with no evidence of criminal activity. In response, the Hellenic Police ordered an Administrative Investigation (EDE) regarding the officers involved, and the case has been referred to the Greek Prosecutor’s Office for review.
