87-year-old hiker rescued by police helicopter in Sicily

An 87‑year‑old man from Rovereto, Trentino, suffered a severe medical emergency while taking part in an organized hike on Monte Cammarata in the province of Agrigento, Sicily. At an altitude of about 1,460 m he collapsed despite a stop and assistance from a doctor traveling with the group. The distress call was placed through the GeoResQ app, prompting a joint response by the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps and the State Police.

A State Police helicopter from the Boccadifalco airport, equipped with a winch, flew to the site. The rescue team winched the patient and the accompanying doctor onto the aircraft, which then transported the hiker to San Giovanni di Dio Hospital in Agrigento for further care.
