8BitDo launches FlipPad smartphone gaming controller

8BitDo has officially released the FlipPad, a compact smartphone gaming controller inspired by 1990s flip phones. Originally announced at CES 2026, the device is now available for purchase on Amazon and the 8BitDo store.

Unlike many competitors that rely on Bluetooth, the FlipPad connects directly via a USB-C port, making it compatible with Android 13 or higher and iOS 26.2 or higher. The design features a hinge mechanism that allows users to quickly fold the controller to pause gameplay and attend to other tasks without disconnecting the device. The hinge is rated for over 6,000 opening and closing cycles, while the USB-C connector is designed to withstand more than 10,000 insertions.

The controller includes a D-pad, ABXY buttons, select and start keys, and L1/L2 and R1/R2 buttons. It is priced at approximately US$29.99, 29.99 euros, or 24.99 pounds.
