8BitDo FlipPad smartphone controller release

Overview

8BitDo announced the FlipPad, a compact USB-C gamepad designed to convert smartphones into handheld consoles. Unveiled at CES in January 2026, the device features a hinge mechanism inspired by 1990s flip phones, allowing users to fold the controller to pause gameplay.

The controller is designed for compatibility with Android 13 or higher and iOS 26.2 or higher, connecting directly via USB-C rather than Bluetooth. It includes a D-pad, ABXY buttons, select and start keys, and four shoulder buttons. The hardware is rated for durability, with the USB-C connector tested for over 10,000 insertions and the hinge for more than 6,000 cycles.

Following its initial announcement, the FlipPad was officially released in August 2026. It is available for purchase through the 8BitDo online store and Amazon at a price of approximately $29.99, 29.99 euros, or 24.99 pounds.
