8th Central Pay Commission holds consultation meetings in Jaipur

The 8th Central Pay Commission, chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is conducting consultation meetings in Jaipur to discuss salary and pension reforms for central government employees and pensioners. During these sessions, various employee unions and pensioner associations are presenting memorandums regarding potential increases in pay and benefits.

A primary focus of the discussions is the fitment factor, which is the multiplier used to determine new basic salaries. While the 7th Pay Commission set this factor at 2.57, employee organizations are demanding an increase to between 3.5 and 4.0, with some reports suggesting a push for 3.68. Such an increase could significantly raise the minimum basic salary from the current ₹18,000 level to approximately ₹63,000.

Pensioners are also seeking to increase the minimum basic pension from the current ₹9,000 per month to a range of ₹22,000 to ₹25,000. Other demands include adjustments to House Rent Allowance (HRA) slabs, Dearness Allowance (DA/DR), and increasing the annual salary increment from the current 3%. The commission has 18 months to submit its final report following its notification on November 3, 2025.
