8th Pay Commission discusses salary and pension fitment factors
Discussions are ongoing regarding the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC), which will determine salary and pension adjustments for government employees. A central component of these negotiations is the fitment factor, a multiplier used to convert current basic pay into the new pay structure.
The All India Federation of Pensioners' Associations (AIFPA) has reportedly demanded a fitment factor of 3.83. In contrast, experts suggest conservative estimates for the factor may range between 1.83 and 2.00, while moderate estimates fall between 2.00 and 2.57. For context, the 7th Pay Commission utilized a fitment factor of 2.57.
The Commission is currently in a consultation phase, having held meetings in Delhi and Kolkata, with upcoming sessions scheduled for Chandigarh and Bengaluru. The review process includes the pay matrix, allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA) and House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other benefits like increments and promotions. Final implementation remains subject to approval by the Central Government.
