8th Pay Commission accelerates consultations with central government employees

The 8th Pay Commission is accelerating its consultation process with various stakeholders, including central government employees and pensioners. The commission has conducted meetings in cities such as Chennai, Puducherry, and Chandigarh, with upcoming sessions scheduled for Bengaluru and Mumbai in October.

Major employee unions, including the National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) and the Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh (BPMS), have submitted detailed demands. The NC-JCM is advocating for a minimum basic pay of Rs 69,000, a fitment factor of 3.833, and an increase in annual increments from 3% to 6%.

Discussions regarding the implementation of the commission's recommendations suggest that if the new pay structure is delayed by 18 to 24 months, employees could receive significant arrears. These arrears, calculated based on the difference between new and old basic pay, could reach up to Rs 17 lakh for certain pay levels, depending on the final fitment factor applied.
