92-year-old Romanian man injured in gas bottle fire in Corlăteni

A 92‑year‑old man in the village of Corlăteni, Botoșani County, Romania, suffered facial and hand burns after attempting to test a gas cylinder with a match. The ignited gas quickly set the summer kitchen and part of the roof ablaze. He escaped the flames, called for help, and was taken by ambulance to a hospital for specialized treatment.

Firefighters from the Dorohoi detachment arrived with two fire‑engine trucks and halted the fire’s spread, preventing further damage to the house and outbuildings. The local Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) reiterated safety guidelines, urging the public to check gas leaks with a soap‑water solution, avoid open flames, ensure proper ventilation, and use only commercially certified cylinders.
