99 ordered to compensate blind man overcharged for ride

A court in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo, has ordered the ride-hailing platform 99 to compensate a blind man after he was overcharged for a trip. The incident occurred in January 2025, when a ride estimated to cost R$ 19.00 resulted in a payment of R$ 1,900.33 made directly to the driver.

The victim reported the discrepancy after checking his bank statement and filed a police report. According to the court, 99 initially refused to provide a full refund, offering only two R$ 10 discount vouchers and claiming the transaction was a private matter between the user and the driver.

The judge ruled that the company is responsible for providing adequate support, particularly for users with disabilities. 99 was ordered to pay R$ 1,881.33 in material damages to cover the excess amount. The decision is subject to appeal.
