A-3 highway to receive ultra-fast electric charging station near Saelices
The Spanish central government has authorized a tender for the construction and operation of an ultra-fast electric vehicle charging station on the A-3 highway near Saelices, Cuenca. The project is part of a larger 611.9 million euro state concession plan, with an initial construction budget of 15.71 million euros.
The facility will be located at kilometer 99 of the A-3, featuring dual installations on both sides of the road. The selected company will be responsible for designing, financing, and executing the works under the supervision of the Directorate General of Highways. The operator will manage the site for a period of 20 to 25 years through a government canon.
This initiative is part of a pilot program by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to accelerate decarbonization across the national highway network, in compliance with European Regulation 2023/1804 regarding alternative fuels infrastructure. The project aims to reduce the gap in ultra-fast charging availability in the interior of the peninsula, specifically serving the high-traffic corridor connecting central Spain with the Levantine coast.
