A1 motorway accident causes heavy traffic in Italy
A heavy goods vehicle overturned in the Santa Lucia tunnel on the A1 motorway between Barberino di Mugello and Calenzano, causing significant traffic disruptions. The accident occurred at kilometer 270+600, resulting in part of the vehicle's cargo being scattered across the roadway.
Authorities temporarily closed the section to facilitate recovery operations and debris removal. While circulation was restored around 8:30 AM on Saturday, October 31, significant delays remained. Traffic reports indicated a 4 km queue between the A1 Direttissima junction and Barberino di Mugello, and a 5 km queue on the Direttissima towards Florence.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, medical services, and highway police, attended the scene. Alternative routes were suggested for motorists during the closure to bypass the congestion.
