A1 motorway accidents in Italy

Overview

Two separate truck accidents occurred on the A1 motorway in Italy during October 2026, causing significant traffic disruptions.

On October 14, a truck overturned inside the Sparvo tunnel near km 16. This incident led to the closure of the section between Badia and the A1 Panoramica junction toward Bologna, resulting in a 5 km queue at the Badia exit.

On October 30, a heavy goods vehicle overturned in the Santa Lucia tunnel between Barberino di Mugello and Calenzano. The accident, which occurred at kilometer 270+600, scattered cargo across the roadway and required a temporary closure for recovery operations. Although circulation was restored by the morning of October 31, significant delays persisted, including a 4 km queue at the A1 Direttissima junction and a 5 km queue on the Direttissima toward Florence.
