Italy femicide: Federico Vella allegedly kills ex-partner on A1 motorway

In a brutal case of femicide in Italy, 45-year-old Lorena Isceri was killed by her ex-partner, 36-year-old Federico Vella. According to investigators, Vella ambushed Isceri in her garage in Florence, assaulted her, and forced her into the trunk of his vehicle. During the drive, Isceri managed to access a phone and contact emergency services, stating, ‘Federico m'ha rapita, vuole uccidermi’ (Federico has kidnapped me, he wants to kill me). She remained on the line with dispatchers for approximately 20 minutes before the communication was cut.

Vella allegedly drove to a viaduct on the A1 motorway in the Barberino del Mugello area, where he threw Isceri from the structure and subsequently committed suicide by jumping himself. The Florence Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident under the hypothesis of premeditated murder, noting that Vella had used adhesive tape and ties to facilitate the crime.

The tragedy has sparked a national outcry, leading Franco Isceri, the victim's father, to issue a public appeal for political unity. He called on Italian leaders, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, to implement stronger preventative measures, enhance anti-violence centers, and increase educational programs in schools to combat gender-based violence. Meloni and opposition leaders have both responded, pledging to work together on solutions to prevent such tragedies.
