A14 Bridge Demolition Near Grimma, Reopening Expected Sunday
The Autobahn GmbH announced that demolition of the overpass "21Ü2" on the A14 near Grimma is progressing faster than planned. A full road closure has been in place since Friday night, and preparatory work—including removal of asphalt, sealing, and initial earthworks—was completed before the weekend. Using demolition hammers and cutters, workers have dismantled the bridge deck, railings, drainage, and supporting pillars, and the structure has now been completely removed. Debris is being transported to a temporary storage site while the roadway is cleaned and safety measures are reinstated. Because of the accelerated pace, the agency expects to reopen the highway on Sunday, ahead of the originally scheduled reopening on Monday morning, 3 August 2026. Preparations for the subsequent construction phase are also under way.
