Italy road accidents: worker struck on A14 and fatal crash on Pontebbana
Multiple serious road incidents have been reported across Italy. On the A14 motorway near Pedaso, a 24-year-old worker was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while performing road signage maintenance. The driver allegedly fled the scene without providing assistance, and police are currently reviewing surveillance footage to identify the vehicle.
In Pordenone, a fatal head-on collision occurred on the SS13 Pontebbana involving a Volkswagen Golf and a heavy truck. A 68-year-old female passenger died shortly after being transported to the hospital, while her 80-year-old husband was injured. Authorities are investigating whether a sudden medical emergency caused the car to veer into the opposite lane.
On the A2 Salerno-Avellino motorway, traffic was paralyzed after a truck transporting an excavator struck an overpass near Baronissi. The impact damaged a bridge beam, causing debris to fall onto passing vehicles. While one person was reported slightly injured, the motorway was closed in both directions for structural safety inspections. Traffic was diverted via the A3 and A30 motorways.
Additionally, a 20-year-old man was killed on the A1 motorway near Melegnano after being struck by an SUV while attempting to place a warning triangle following a minor collision.
