Recent motorway and road accidents in Italy

Overview

Recent road incidents in Italy have resulted in several casualties and significant traffic disruptions. On the A14 motorway near Pedaso, a 24-year-old worker was seriously injured while performing road signage maintenance after being struck by a vehicle. The driver allegedly fled the scene without providing assistance, and police are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the vehicle.

On the A2 Salerno-Avellino motorway near Baronissi, a truck transporting an excavator struck an overpass, damaging a bridge beam and causing debris to fall onto vehicles. One person was reported slightly injured, and the motorway was closed in both directions for structural safety inspections, with traffic diverted via the A3 and A30 motorways.

Other fatal or serious accidents include a head-on collision on the SS13 Pontebbana in Pordenone involving a Volkswagen Golf and a heavy truck, which resulted in the death of a 68-year-old female passenger. Authorities are investigating if a medical emergency caused the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane. Additionally, a 20-year-old man was killed on the A1 motorway near Melegnano after being struck by an SUV while attempting to place a warning triangle following a minor collision.
