Poland announces highway toll changes and border restrictions

Poland is implementing significant changes to its transport infrastructure. On the Polish-Ukrainian border, bus traffic entering Poland through the Medyka crossing will be suspended starting September 20. This suspension, due to the reconstruction of the bus processing building, is expected to last until November 2027. Buses traveling from Ukraine to Poland will be redirected to the Korczowa, Krościenko, and Malhowice crossings.

Regarding domestic highways, the Ministry of Infrastructure has confirmed that no plans exist to reintroduce tolls for passenger cars and motorcycles on state-managed sections. Furthermore, the 30-year concession for the A4 motorway between Katowice and Kraków is set to expire on March 15, 2027. Following this, management will transfer to the Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad (GDDKiA), and tolls for light vehicles will be abolished. Plans are also underway to expand this section of the A4 by adding a third lane to accommodate high traffic volumes, with construction potentially starting around 2030.
