A40 Autobahn in Mülheim Closed for Ten Days for WWII Ordnance Search

The A40 Ruhr highway in Mülheim will be fully closed in both directions from the evening of 12 June until the morning of 22 June. The closure is required for an extensive search for World‑War‑II unexploded ordnance ("Blindgänger") that is hindering the planned demolition and rebuilding of the Hardenberg bridge and the Geitlingstraße bridge, work slated to continue until 2028.

The detour routes redirect up to 90,000 daily vehicles – including freight traffic – onto local roads and surrounding motorways, adding to congestion already caused by nearby construction at the Kaiserberg interchange in Duisburg. Motorists are advised to follow the marked red‑point diversion signs and anticipate longer travel times.
