AAA warns of strike impact during drought and water shortages

The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) is facing operational challenges due to a drought emergency and mechanical failures. Executive Director Luis Reinaldo González Delgado warned that a potential strike by the Unión Independiente Auténtica (UIA) could severely impact daily operations during this critical period. The dispute stems from the implementation of a classification and compensation plan approved by the Fiscal Control Board, which the AAA maintains is not a collective bargaining matter.

Simultaneously, the La Plata reservoir is experiencing water service disruptions caused by a mechanical failure in a pumping unit. The AAA is awaiting the arrival of a specialized replacement part from the United States. While the authority works to resolve the mechanical issue, the Drought Committee has indicated that service interruptions or pressure reductions may be necessary if the drought conditions continue to deteriorate.
