Greece AADE notifies vehicle owners of unpaid 2021 road tax

Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has launched a notification process for vehicle owners regarding unpaid road taxes from 2021. Between September 14 and September 30, 2026, electronic notifications are being sent to individuals whose records indicate outstanding obligations.

To avoid penalties and the formal assessment of debts, owners have until October 30, 2026, to correct their vehicle records. Starting October 1, a specialized application within the myCAR platform will allow owners to log in using Taxisnet credentials. Through this portal, they can declare the actual status of their vehicle for 2021—such as cases involving theft, deregistration, legal immobilization, or tax exemption—and submit supporting documentation.

The correction process applies to vehicles declared in the taxpayer’s E1 tax return, though vehicles belonging to persons with disabilities or those registered to deceased persons are excluded. If owners do not rectify their records by the deadline, AADE will proceed with the final assessment of debts and penalties, a process expected to conclude by early December 2026.
