AAPSU rejects Kuki Human Rights Council intervention in Arunachal electoral revision

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has condemned the Manipur-based Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) for intervening in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Bordumsa, Changlang district. AAPSU President Meje Taku characterized the KHRC’s recent communications to the National Human Rights Commission and the United Nations as “baseless, politically motivated and an unwanted interference” in the state’s internal affairs.

The dispute involves the ongoing statutory exercise by the Election Commission of India to verify and revise electoral rolls. AAPSU asserts its right to ensure that illegal or doubtful names are excluded to protect the land, culture, and identity of indigenous tribes. The union argues that the presence of the Chakma and Hajong communities, who were settled in the region on humanitarian grounds between 1964 and 1969, is a matter of indigenous survival rather than a minority rights issue.

AAPSU further rejected allegations of violent obstruction during the SIR hearings, maintaining that their actions have been democratic and peaceful. The union cited constitutional safeguards, including Article 371H and the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873, as the basis for their efforts to prevent indigenous populations from becoming minorities in their own land.
