Aarau rave shooting: Swiss man arrested after one dead and five injured

A 43-year-old Swiss man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at the Aarau Rave VOL. 7 techno festival in the Schachen district of Aarau, Switzerland. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at the local racecourse as the event was concluding.

The shooting resulted in the death of 22-year-old Maria Spinelli, an Italian national. Five other individuals, aged between 24 and 31, were injured in the attack, including four men and one woman. The wounded include a German national and several Swiss residents, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Investigators recovered evidence indicating that two different weapon calibres were used: 9mm ammunition, typically associated with pistols or submachine guns, and 5.45 x 39 mm ammunition, commonly used in assault rifles. Authorities are currently exploring three primary hypotheses: a terrorist attack, a mass shooting, or a criminal settling of scores. Police believe the suspect may have acted alone, though investigations into the motive and exact sequence of events are ongoing.
