Aardman Animations releases third Shaun the Sheep feature film

Aardman Animations is releasing “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom,” the third feature film in the stop-motion franchise. The film, which serves as a horror-themed homage to classic cinema, is scheduled for theatrical release on September 18, 2026.

The plot follows the residents of Mossy Bottom Farm as they prepare for a Halloween celebration. After the Farmer accidentally destroys the flock’s secret pumpkin patch, Shaun attempts to regrow the crop using a science experiment. The experiment goes awry when a concoction is mixed with the Farmer’s hair-growth formula, leading to the Farmer transforming into a mysterious, hairy beast.

Produced at the studio’s Bristol facility, the film maintains the franchise’s tradition of silent, visual storytelling. Directors Matthew Walker and Steve Cox have noted that while the film draws inspiration from horror classics like “Nosferatu” and “The Shining,” the scares have been softened to ensure the content remains appropriate for a family audience. The production marks a significant milestone for Aardman as the studio celebrates its 50th anniversary.
