Aaron Philo named Florida Gators starting quarterback

Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall has named Aaron Philo as the starting quarterback for the 2026 season. Philo, a transfer from Georgia Tech, won the position following a competition with Tramell Jones Jr.

Philo enters his third year of college football, having previously played two seasons at Georgia Tech. He joins the Gators alongside offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, who held the same position at Georgia Tech. Philo is noted for his high school record as the Georgia all-time passing leader and his ability to contribute both through passing and rushing.

The Gators are scheduled to make their season debut at home against Florida Atlantic in Week 1. Following that matchup, Florida will host Campbell in Week 2 before beginning SEC play against Auburn in Week 3.
