Abanca posts over €900 million profit and adds 160,000 new customers

Spanish lender Abanca announced net profit exceeding €900 million for the latest fiscal year, reflecting a return on equity of 15.1 %. The bank also expanded its client base by about 160,000 customers, boosting the scale of its retail operations. Management attributed the performance to a combination of strong commercial acquisition, operational efficiency and higher weighting of profitable financial products. The results underline Abanca’s solid balance sheet and its ability to grow while maintaining margin discipline, supporting its outlook for continued expansion through 2026.

The bank highlighted its focus on digitalisation, simple product offerings and the possibility of future acquisitions to accelerate growth, though it did not disclose specific merger plans. Analysts view the earnings as a positive signal for the Spanish banking sector amid a challenging macro‑environment of high rates and regulatory pressure.
