Abbas Araghchi warns of false-flag attacks targeting Iraqi Kurdistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned against ‘false-flag ploys’ intended to create tension between Iran and the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The warning follows reports of drone attacks targeting the private office of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of a local security official.

While regional counter-terrorism authorities stated that two ‘Hadid-110’ drones were launched from the Iranian side of the border, no casualties were reported. Prime Minister Barzani condemned the strikes as a direct threat to the security and stability of the Iraqi Kurdistan region. In a subsequent phone call with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Araghchi emphasized Iran’s support for Iraq’s territorial integrity and called for vigilance against conspiracies that could damage the relationship between the two neighbors.

In a separate address at a national education conference, Araghchi also discussed the coordination between Iran’s diplomatic efforts and its military capabilities. He stated that diplomacy relies on military power to consolidate national interests and security.
