IIO investigates two separate police arrest injuries in BC
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia is conducting investigations into two separate incidents involving police arrests that resulted in serious injuries.
In Nelson, the IIO is investigating the arrest of a youth on August 11, 2026. According to the Nelson Police Department, the youth appeared intoxicated and became uncooperative during an arrest on Hume Lane. While in custody at the Nelson Police Department cells, the youth sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and required treatment at a nearby hospital.
In Abbotsford, the IIO is also investigating an incident from August 12, 2026, on Mouat Drive. Officers responded to a report of an armed individual threatening occupants in a residence. During the subsequent arrest of the man on an upper balcony, an interaction occurred that resulted in the individual sustaining serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to a local hospital for medical assessment.
